Tunisian crochet is also famous by the name of Afghan crochet. This type of crochet is made with the help of an elongated hook called afghan hook. This hook is closed from one side with the help of a stopper.

RESEMBLES KNITTING:

The Tunisian crochet in its design is much resembled to knitting because it follows the same techniques as used in knitting.

STITCHES INVOLVED IN AFGHAN CROCHET:

The pattern starts with a starting chain stitch with a series of slip stitch. The number of loops on the hook is equal to the stitches required. A variety of stitches can be created while making the Tunisian crochet.

The fabric that is made by Tunisian crochet is not so elastic in its texture and is also thicker than other crochet styles.

FABRICS MADE BY TUNISIAN CROCHET:

The Tunisian stitch is mainly used in the making of carpets and blankets. Soft material fabrics are not made by this stitch because it makes the fabric quite stiff. So, baby fabrics and socks are not made by this Tunisian stitch.
