Knit beanies are great for keeping your head warm. At the same time, they are easy to make. Here is a step by step guide on how you can make a knit beanie?
You will need 200 yards worsted yarn of a color of your choice, circular needles (size 8), stitch makers, tapestry needles and scissors.
Now start by gauging your yarn. The appropriate measurement for making a knit beanie for an adult is that a 4 inch x 4 inch swatch of fabric should contain 20 stitches, knitted for 26 rows.
Create a slip knot on one of the needles. Then cast on 80 stitches on the needle. Place a marker on the sides of the needle, holding the stitches. Knit the first 10 rows in a 2 knit, 2 purl system. Keep track of the number of rows, otherwise you will have problem to match it with other parts of the knit beanie.
Now for the next rows, knit odd rows using pure knit stitches and even rows in a 1 knit, 1 purl manner. Continue doing this until the knitted fabric measures to 10 inches.
In order to make the crown, you have to keep dropping the number of stitches in each row. For this, you need to knit 2 stitches together, decreasing the number of stitches to half at each row. Continue doing this for 3 consecutive rows.
Finally, cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Now use your sewing needle and left over yarn to pull and weave the crown together.
